Port Lincoln Racing Tips 4 Nov 2026: Chef Militaire Again?

Overview

Chef Militaire has won three straight starts and has finished in the first three at five of six runs at Port Lincoln, which makes this the standout on a nine-race card that otherwise has plenty of exposed, inconsistent horses.

The track is rated Good to Soft. The first race goes at 12:40PM local time and the last at 5:15PM, with four sprints over 1000m in the middle of the card. J Dunn & K Bishop have 222 runners at the track on record, far more than anyone else, and they have a big team again today. These Port Lincoln racing tips go through all nine races and the riders who know the track best, and finish with a quaddie built around Chef Militaire. The first four races were priced when this was written. The rest were not.

Port Lincoln, the setup

For a country track there is plenty of course form to work with. Here are the horses on today’s card with at least three runs at Port Lincoln that matter for our picks, ranked by place rate.

Horse Runs Wins Places Win% Place%
Minato 3 1 3 33.3 100.0
Chef Militaire 6 3 5 50.0 83.3
The Wirrulla Boy 4 1 3 25.0 75.0
Broadway Lane 4 1 3 25.0 75.0
Skating On By 4 0 3 0.0 75.0
Solar Gaze 6 1 4 16.7 66.7
Equine Headline 6 0 4 0.0 66.7
Strawberry Swing 6 2 3 33.3 50.0
Jockey Runs Wins Places Win% Place%
Rochelle Milnes 64 11 31 17.2 48.4
Kayla Crowther 23 7 11 30.4 47.8
Brooke King 59 4 23 6.8 39.0
MS S Metcalfe 39 6 13 15.4 33.3
Connor Murtagh 43 5 12 11.6 27.9
S H Sit 27 2 7 7.4 25.9
Trainer Runs Wins Places Win% Place%
Wayne Brown 7 1 6 14.3 85.7
Christopher Harrison 16 2 6 12.5 37.5
Byron J Cozamanis 38 3 14 7.9 36.8
MS S Williams 24 5 8 20.8 33.3
Jackie Stoetzer 30 5 9 16.7 30.0
J Dunn & K Bishop 222 16 62 7.2 27.9

Rochelle Milnes finishes in the first three on almost half of all Port Lincoln rides, and Kayla Crowther wins nearly one ride in three here. The Dunn and Bishop stable has the most runners, but its strike rate is ordinary, so don’t back their horses on the trainer’s name alone.

Port Lincoln race by race

Race 1: The Elliston Hotel Mdn Plate, 12:40PM, 1350m

This is a weak maiden with no clear standout. Bouzy’s Babe ran third at three straight starts before a sixth, another third and an eighth, but MS S Metcalfe rides for Wayne Brown, who has placed with six of seven runners here. She is $4.80 with Bet Right.

Initially ran second last start and is favourite at $4 with Unibet, and that recent second is the best form in the race. Hard to be confident about either of them. Small each-way on Bouzy’s Babe, or leave the race alone.

Race 2: Vinarchy Wines Mdn Hcp, 1:10PM, 1210m

Offa’s Dyke ran second last start, the only run in the last 90 days, and after five runs here is still looking for a first win. Connor Murtagh rides for Dunn and Bishop. Offa’s Dyke shares favouritism at $3.40 with Unibet with Hammertime, who has run seventh, eighth and fourth from three starts and has yet to place.

Uncommon Mind is the danger. The two runs this preparation were a fourth and a third, and Uncommon Mind has placed here before. The price is $4.40 with Bet Right. Back Offa’s Dyke to win, with Uncommon Mind in the exacta.

Race 3: Streaky Bay Hotel (Bm70), 1:45PM, 1000m

Two horses come here off wins. The Wirrulla Boy won last start and has a win and three placings from four runs at Port Lincoln. Brooke King rides for Byron J Cozamanis. Charka also won last start and has a win and two placings from two runs here.

The difference is weight. Charka carries 54kg, two kilos less than The Wirrulla Boy‘s 56kg, and over 1000m that can make a difference. The market has The Wirrulla Boy at $2.25 with Neds and Charka at $3.90 with Unibet. The Wirrulla Boy has the longer record at the track, so is our banker, but if you want one bet in the race, Charka at nearly four times your money is the better price. Win on The Wirrulla Boy, saver on Charka.

Race 4: The Kimba Hotel Hcp (54), 2:20PM, 1000m

The market has Tornado’s Sister favourite at $3.60 with Bet Right after two eighths in her last two runs. That is too short. Broadway Lane has finished in the first three at five of the last six starts, and has a win and three placings from four runs here.

Jemma Gutte rides for Jackie Stoetzer, who has trained five winners at the track, and Broadway Lane carries 57kg. At $4.60 with Unibet this is the value bet of the day. Lapilli won six starts back and has Kayla Crowther, so is the danger at $5 with Bet Right. Back Broadway Lane to win.

Race 5: Asahi Publican’s Day Hcp (54), 2:55PM, 1000m

Skating On By keeps finishing in the first four without winning. Since the break the form reads third, fourth, third, fourth and third, with three placings from four starts here and no win. Connor Murtagh rides at 57.5kg.

The Hass won last start and has won once from four starts here, but carries 60kg, the most in the race, and has one win from three starts in the last 90 days. Prescient is more consistent but ran seventh last time. Skating On By each-way, with The Hass the main danger.

Race 6: The Pier Hotel Hcp (C1), 3:30PM, 1000m

Go Ask Alice won last start and has run twice here, winning once and placing in the other. Rochelle Milnes, who has the most placings of any rider at the track, rides for Dunn and Bishop at 57.5kg. The last 90 days show a win and two placings from four starts.

Equine Headline has run second at each of the last two starts and has placed at four of six here, but has never won at Port Lincoln, which makes it the danger for second. Solar Gaze ran third last time and has placed at four of six starts here. Back Go Ask Alice to win, with Equine Headline and Solar Gaze in the trifecta.

Race 7: The Marina Hotel Hcp (54), 4:05PM, 1350m

Minato is the only horse on the whole card to have placed at every Port Lincoln start, three from three including one win. The last two starts were both thirds, Rochelle Milnes rides at 58kg, and the last 90 days show two placings from two runs but no win.

Utah has placed at both runs here and was fourth last start for Connor Murtagh, which makes Utah the danger. Sir Panama has won here before, but two eighths in the last two runs are hard to ignore. Minato each-way rather than win, because the pattern is placings rather than wins.

Race 8: Wudinna Hotel (Bm68), 4:40PM, 1350m

Chef Militaire has won the last three starts, all within the last 90 days, and has earned $32,700 in that time. The record at Port Lincoln is six runs for three wins and five placings, the best course record on the card. Ryan Dawson has two winners from two runners here, and Ashlee Stone rides.

The question is weight. Chef Militaire carries 60.5kg and It’s A Solid Deel carries only 52.5kg. It’s A Solid Deel won last start and has three placings from seven runs here, so has the form to take advantage of the weight if Chef Militaire is below best. My Mate Sonny has won twice here but ran fourth last time.

We still think Chef Militaire is the better horse. Three wins in a row at this level, at a track where the record is this good, outweigh the 8kg given away. This is the NAP. Back Chef Militaire to win, and if you want cover, put It’s A Solid Deel in the exacta.

Race 9: Great Northern Hotel (Bm60), 5:15PM, 1210m

Strawberry Swing won last start and has won twice from six runs here. MS S Metcalfe rides for Jackie Stoetzer at 57.5kg. There have been only two runs in the last 90 days, and one of them was a win.

Only One Ruler won one of its two Port Lincoln starts, but ran seventh last start. Bjarne has the most weight at 61kg and ran sixth last start. Strawberry Swing to win, with Only One Ruler as the danger.

Where the money goes

NAP: Chef Militaire (Race 8, 4:40PM). Three straight wins and five placings from six runs here. The weight is a concern, but no horse on the card is in better form.

Value: Broadway Lane (Race 4, 2:20PM), $4.60 with Unibet. Placed at five of the last six starts, and the favourite is coming off two eighths.

Banker: The Wirrulla Boy (Race 3, 1:45PM), $2.25 with Neds. A last-start winner with three placings from four runs here.

Each-way: Skating On By (Race 5, 2:55PM). Five runs since the break, all in the first four.

Course angle: Back Rochelle Milnes‘s rides at Port Lincoln: 31 placings from 64 rides here, and today’s book includes Go Ask Alice and Minato in the quaddie.

Quaddie (Races 6 to 9): Go Ask Alice with Equine Headline, Minato with Utah, Chef Militaire, Strawberry Swing with Only One Ruler.

If Chef Militaire wins again with 60.5kg, the handicapper will add more weight next time, so today may be the best chance to back Chef Militaire at a reasonable weight.
