BEST BET 🏆
Race 3 No. 4 BAR GEM – ($2.50)
We saw a case of class prevailing as BAR GEM swept on by to upset us when he put Roughly away late. We had been on the latter after collecting a good payout on the ageing mare and she again ran well. Bar Gem is always hard to hold out while fresh though, and he unleashed with a mighty run up the straight to score impressively. Yet to break through whilst racing second-up, and yet he hasn’t run poorly either. Jessie Philpot can play the stalking role off an inside barrier on Bar Gem and this pair can go back-to-back while up to a more suitable trip.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 1 No. 2 HARD WORK REWARDS – ($5)
Strike me pink was about all anyone could say as HARD WORK REWARDS stormed past a quality benchmark 64 field to go on and score. The lightly raced nine-year-old mare had bypassed her maiden to find form while well up in grade. She settled towards the tail before Dakota-Lee Gillett commenced her run on the turn. Hard Work Rewards bloused past the likes of Elmore Lad and Co to sure up a maiden winner for her rider. The pair come back to a Class Two which rates as a benchmark 56 around her. She may be a nine-year-old, however Hard Work Rewards would still seem to hold the upside of this field.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 4 No. 4 DRAWN TO WIN – ($5.50)
The former Scott Singleton trained galloper DRAWN TO WIN showed good speed off an outside draw to lead the field at Gunnedah. He turned for home in front before being collared late to finish just out of the placings. Singleton next added the blinkers and brought the gelding back half a furlong. Drawn To Win missed the kickoff his inside draw yet still had the pace to scoot through towards the front over the 900 metres. Wasn’t going as well as the winner and continued to box on gamely despite being outclassed. Clearly needs something a little easier and finds that in Central Australia. Don’t mind him being drawn out for his first go on dirt and Drawn To Win should have the pace to clear them early.
