Race 4 No. 1 TRADE WAR – ($6)

The luckless TRADE WAR deserves more return than what he’s showing on paper for his past runs at Ascot. He rolled forward over this track and trip for Chris Parnham last start before becoming awkwardly placed as the pace slackened down the side. Trade War was still badly held up for a run as Alsephina cruised past with momentum to open a winning break. Trade War finished hard to run second while being strong enough through the line to be clearly in front not long after the post. He has been carrying his weight well and only went down narrowly the start prior. Trade War is racing in good heart and Brad Rawiller can see him over the line as Michael Lane finds them a race back in grade.

Race 7 No. 3 PAT’S GOT SASS – ($15)

Keshaw Dhurun afforded the big mare PAT’S GOT SASS a positive ride from the gate when racing second-up over a mile. She was out fast for the apprentice with the pair rolling forward to settle outside the leader in a strung-out field. She appreciated the extra space afforded to her as opposed to racing between horses off a slow tempo first-up. Castillo De Lago had attempted to give her the slip on turning with Dhurun having none of this. He urged his mare to continue chasing, with the pair hitting the front by the furlong. She continued boxing strongly as Megazone came off her back, eventually gaining the upper hand inside the last 50m. Pat’s Got Sass has the race fitness on her side and can stalk the pace early.

Race 3 No. 13 CHOKSLAM – ($17)

Railway Stakes Day was surprisingly only the second time that seven-year-old CHOKSLAM has been out to the 2200m distance. Should think trainer Gary Crispin will be keen to continue searching for ground as Chokslam finished second over the trip once again. He has raced consistently well over his past half dozen or so and finished bravely behind Truly Inspired. They ran a good time on the improving soft track with Chokslam caught wide without cover throughout. Peter Knuckey allowed his mount to stride forward on turning to hit the front by the top of the straight. The pair were bested to the finish by Truly Inspired who had a quiet run, while accounting comfortably for the rest.
