Ascot Tips 7/12/2022
BEST BET 🏆
Race 2 No. 1 REAR ADMIRAL – ($1.65)
The good thing of the day goes around early as REAR ADMIRAL finds a sharp bunny to chase in Trigger Finger. The Casey filly looked the part over this trip on debut at Belmont a bit over two weeks back when stalking the leader. Jordan Turner could not hold her any slower with Rear Admiral champing at the bit to go up and challenge for the top spot. Turner finally slipped her some more leather not long after straightening. Rear Admiral responded by building big strides up the Belmont straight to increase her margin on the others. Finds one here to go quick enough early to help her settle into her stride. Will appreciate the tempo and be powering over the top of them late.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 6 No. 1 SURVEILLANCE – ($3.40)
The tough Jim Taylor trained galloper SURVEILLANCE may be forced to do some work again from the draw. He’s had to do it the hard way at his past couple and seems to thrive on the competition. Did a power of work under apprentice Keshaw Dhurun early before proving too strong over the mile at Northam. The pair denied all challengers into the straight that day to come away again inside the furlong. Luke Campbell remained at his mount early to maintain a position behind the speed over at his next outing. Campbell then sent Surveillance forward to hit the front by the top of the straight as the challengers came. Surveillance once again dug deep to come away with a win over the mile. Out to 1800 metres now may help Surveillance find a forward spot whilst racing in a comfortable rhythm early on.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 4 No. 3 ELDORADO RIVER – ($17)
We’re glad to see ELDORADO RIVER having to line up in only a smallish field here at Ascot. With the rail out 14 metres we immediately went searching for horses to sit in the first few in running. Wednesday has thrown up difficult pace maps early with most of any speed or quality drawn wide in the early races. The last three here are 1800 metre affairs and trying to pick any tactics in those can be a nightmare. We thought we were home as Samira kicked for the judge inside the 100m. It took one in Eldorado River to knock us off on the line courtesy of ride of the day from Troy Turner. Apprentice Taj Dyson claims his 3kg on Wednesday. Whilst we expect Taj to come back and peel wide, the small field may bunch, meaning Eldorado River may be close enough to get home and score.
