Race 8 No. 10 MY BELLA MAE – ($5)

Relative newcomer to the racing scene MY BELLA MAE continues to impress for trainer Dion Luciani. She stayed under notice during her two trials as Luciani prepared her for a midweek debut in town. Punters backed her into favouritism before collecting as My Bella Mae settled behind the pace to score. Jumped away with them again at Ascot over 1200 metres before chasing a good pace from better than midfield. Did enough things right under Patrick Carbery to score while registering a smart time at her second outing. Will enjoy the pressure created from a bunch of speed horses in this and can chime in late.

Race 9 No. 11 PLAYING MARIKA – ($8)

Stephanie Bakranich trained mare PLAYING MARIKA has shown to come back in great order this prep. Usually takes a few runs to find her best; however, Playing Marika has put the writing on the wall with fast finishes over 1400 and 1600 metres respectively. She closed off again when staying to the mile third-up at Ascot as Troy Turner circled the field off an even tempo. Big Screen led to the turn before kicking strongly to win. Playing Marika let him know that she was there on the line, and she would only strip fitter again. Turner will be riding for luck from an inside draw an Playing Marika will make her presence felt should the runs come.

Race 1 No. 1 DOUBLE SPICE – ($13)

There’s room for DOUBLE SPICE to progress following his third-up effort in a rating 72+ at Kalgoorlie. The city meeting saw most of the winners staying close to the rail with Double Spice attempting to defy that pattern. Laqdar Ramoly gave the horse plenty of time to find his feet off the good pace before bringing Double Spice with a run up the middle. Finished strongly to grab second place, and we’d expect the strong gelding to be further improved on the bigger tracks.
