Ascot Tips 14/01/2023

BEST BET 🏆

Race 2 No. 5 VALSASSINA – ($2.60)

The Simon Miller trained filly VALSASSINA was well backed on return to start as the race favourite at Belmont over this trip. Punters were keen to load-up for a midweek kill after showing herself to be forward in both trials leading in to race day. There was some good speed in her race with Patrick Carbery letting Valsassina find her feet early. She trucked into it nicely on the turn before having them covered by the 300m. Carbery cuddled his mount for as long as possible before shooting for home inside the 200m. She ran put a space on her rivals as she sprinted strongly through the line. The stakes become raised as Valsassina prepares for Saturday grade in a race laden with pressure.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 3 No. 1 TINSNIP – ($10)

Keshaw Dhurun can take advantage of some good pressure drawn inside of TINSNIP to cross and sit behind the speed. Sean & Jake Casey gave their charge two-months between runs as Tinsip travelled deep off his wide draw to knock-up in a sharp 1200 metre race. Improved sharply with that run under his belt last start when stepping up to the mile at his most recent. Dhurun gave him the absolute run of the race behind the leaders though Tinsnip probably travelled a bit hard in the run. They still presented from the top of the straight and tried all the way to the line, not beaten far. Ready to show his best third-up as he comes back in trip and grade while getting first crack at them into the straight.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 4 No. 6 SOCKOFF – ($9)

Race four on the card looms an interesting contest with the rampant Burnya To Survive chasing three in a row since returning. He’ll get the speed in front with the likes of last start track and trip winner SOCKOFF bowling along. We’ll side with her as our value each-way bet to make it back-to-back wins after beating fillies and mares in Listed grade. She ran good time from the front for Holly Watson who gets to utilise her claim on Saturday. There’s plenty of pressure building behind the pair in this, however Sockoff is speedy and will take catching.
