Ascot Tips 15/10/2022

BEST BET 🏆

Race 1 No. 3 ALL THE KING’S MEN – ($2.40)

We’re clearly not price hunting as we seek quality horses for our maiden write-up in the WA Black Book. We’ll see how the market entertains us nonetheless as we follow ALL THE KING’S MEN this prep. This early season 3yo was just trucking from a long way out under Shaun O’Donnell before letting down into the straight. All The King’s Men raced clear for an emphatic win whilst proving to be green all the way up the straight. Will find it harder here with the likes of horses such as Rejuva King engaged; however, All The King’s Men gives the impression he can go to another level yet.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 4 No. 5 LEXINGTON CITY – ($3)

We saw LEXINGTON CITY absorb some early pressure in his races last prep before kicking on to score. He was only racing against small fields and that experience can help see him through as the numbers increase now. Has a high cruising speed with the ability to change pace again which is something that will test these. Simon Miller sent the horse around for a leisurely trial under Patrick Carbery earlier this month which showed Lexington City to be ready for his first-up tilt.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 5 No. 4 MYSTERY ISLAND – ($7)

The Lindsay Smith stayer MYSTERY ISLAND will likely roll forward and have one or two horses to follow. Pace over the mile here does not look all that hot and this contest could all be decided by those settling on-speed. Mystery Island has proven to be capable over this trip with a win over the mile already, plus a placing over the trip in the Elmore Cup at Bendigo. Ran sharp time when getting a bit keen from back of midfield when resuming behind Sessions Peak. Since sent out over some ground to win a good race over 2000 metres at Belmont. He’s on a relatively quick back-up for a horse coming back in trip; however, Mystery Island can be in this for a long way.
