Race 7 No. 6 BUSTLER- ($4.40)

An exciting W.A. Guineas coming up on Saturday where we are going with BUSTLER to upset the filly Amelia’s Jewel. There’s not a heap of pressure up front in this which may allow Steven Parnham to take up a more forward position over the mile. Where Amelia’s Jewel gets to we’re not sure. One would think Patrick Carbery will attempt to follow Parnham throughout or may perhaps even attempt to slide up outside his horse. Amelia’s Jewel seemed to peak on her run second-up when chasing the smart Laced Up Heels over 1400 metres in smart time. She’s three weeks since that run, which she probably needs as a filly, just not sure going up another furlong is ideal for her right now. We believe Bustler can be strong through the line whilst also holding an advantage of crucial early race positioning.

Race 9 No. 4 BIG SCREEN – ($7.50)

We wrote Playing Marika straight into the #WABlackbookers file following her effort behind the ever-consistent BIG SCREEN. We cannot ignore Big Screen himself as he stays to class while raising to another furlong on a track he races so well at. He has not drawn ideally which may be helping us somewhat with the current market quote. Does possess blistering gate speed though and Shaun O’Donnell will not be in two minds as the gates open. There’s a fair bit more pressure engaged in this race here with plenty of speed horses to go around. Big Screen doesn’t mind running along though, and if anything does take him on it will be to their own detriment.

Race 2 No. 11 BANNANA – ($15)

The lightly raced staying type BANNANA found little luck third-up as trainer Brett Pope sent him over 1800 metres at Ascot. He was coming off a second-up win over the mile there just seven days prior. Shaun McGruddy attempted to restrain Bannana into a position from their wide gate. The horse seemed reluctant to settle, and with the speed on, McGruddy tried his hand further afield. While they still could not get in, Bannana dropped his head and raced far more tractable when allowed to roll. He travelled wide without cover the entire and was entitled to fold into the straight. Instead McGruddy cuddled the stoutly bred gelding for as long as possible with his horse finishing the race off well.
