Race 8 No. 7 MICHELADA – ($5)

A fresh MICHELADA raced very fiercely under Patrick Carbery first-up at Northam over the 1100 metres. The experienced senior worked into the clear to race three-wide without cover rather than reefing and tearing behind horses. Michelada travelled up okay into the straight, just had nothing to offer when asked to let down. Travelled sweetly the fence behind the speed when racing second-up under Holly Watson. She was racing back to 1000 metres, yet still struck a race with no tempo. Things worked out for us as we landed the paycheck with Critical Altitude getting the bob in over Michelada back to his inside. She will strip fitter again while appreciating the rise to six-furlongs.

Race 7 No. 7 SAMARIA – ($6.50)

The blinkers went on SAMARIA last start to reveal a real racehorse as she pinged to the front from the gates. Came back nicely under Holly Watson to lead at a good tempo while doing it well within herself. Watson asked her to increase rounding for home and Samaria obliged by putting a gap onto her rivals. She was well clear approaching the 200 metres and Watson kept her going strongly to the line. That was just her second race start with Mitchell Pateman now finding the perfect follow-up race at home. Stays to track and distance and Samaria can make the instantaneous leap from maiden by winning her class one on Wednesday.

Race 4 No. 2 ROYAL ACCOLADE – ($11)

Peter Knuckey can find a handy position just under the speed with ROYAL ACCOLADE. The lightly raced gelding seems to be improving with every outing for trainer Kellie Grantham. Wasn’t the best away when on debut over the 1300 metres at Northam. Showed enough speed to sit one-off behind the speed while racing keenly and not finding much into the straight. Jumped better at his next outing which was run over the same track and distance. Continued to race fiercely once finding the front to run them along at a good clip. Wilted late to be claimed by a couple, including today’s rival Missile Storm. Since showed better race manners when following the speed back to six-furlongs and can continue to improve.
