HEADLINE STORY can finally break through when he steps out in Race 2 of the day at Bairnsdale. The Philip Stokes-trained galloper has placed in four of seven and just missed at Kilmore over the 1200m on March 10, finishing runner-up behind Big Watch. He settled just behind the leading pair but couldn’t quite catch the eventual winner. The son of Headwater was runner-up at Pakenham the previous time he stepped out over the 1200m. That form looks good for this race and he draws to get the gun run from barrier 4.

The Bairnsdale Cup is the feature and NOT USUAL GLORIOUS can improve off a last start effort that saw him drop out of it at Listed level in the CS Hayes Cup (1600m) at Morphettville. The six-year-old worked hard early on to lead that day and was pressured early before landing five lengths behind Beltoro. This looks easier and at the second run of his preparation last year the son of Fiorente improved nearly six lengths on benchmark figures to score at Morphettville. He draws to save ground from barrier 1 and will be ridden by Joe Bowditch.
