Race 10 No. 1 DETONATOR JACK- ($3.60)

We wait until the last race for our Best Bet and DETONATOR JACK can go on with the job after resuming with a win at Flemington over the 1400m on Melbourne Cup day. The Maher/Eustace galloper has now won four of five career starts with his only miss coming at Group 1 level in the SA Derby (2500m). Don’t mind the fact that he sticks to the 1400m and he went 8.3 lengths faster than standard benchmark when resuming, which is nearly four lengths better than the next best last start figures of any runner. He improved five lengths at his initial campaign at this stage to score go from a Bendigo Maiden win to a BM64 win at Sandown. The son of Jakkalberry draws well in barrier 5 and has the class to overcome the 60.5kg. 

NEXT BEST 🥈 

Race 3 No. 10 PURE PARADISE- ($8.50)

A few unknowns here with some first starters in action but I am willing to have a crack at PURE PARADISE after a debut performance that saw her go down to King’s Gambit at Caulfield in the Debutant Stakes. She was well beaten as the runner-up that day, finishing five lengths away, but it came behind one that looks to be a potential star. The Lloyd Kennewell-trained galloper produced the second fastest late splits behind the winner to go 2.6 lengths faster than standard benchmark, which is the best figure of any runner in this race. That experience should be handy against those that are yet to step out and she has drawn perfectly in barrier 4.

Race 6 No. 6 WYCLIF- ($13)

WYCLIF shapes as an each-way player in Race 6 of the day at Ballarat. The Danny O’Brien-trained galloper has a tendency to mix his form but was excellent last time out at Flemington on Stakes Day over the 2000m, finishing runner-up behind Flash Feeling. He was wide in that race but kept coming and looked the winner with 100m to go before being unable to bridge the gap late. The five-year-old went comes into this full of fitness and drops 3.5kg, while he should enjoy a nice run from barrier 5.
