Race 4 No. 3 POWER MISSILE- ($5)

POWER MISSILE can break through in Race 4 of the day at Ballarat. The Lindsey Smith-trained galloper has had just the three career starts and was an improver at Warrnambool on March 13 when running on from the tail to just miss out behind Atala. The son of Smart Missile went 1.4 lengths slower than standard benchmark that day and a similar figure will see him be hard to beat. A firmer in the early betting, he will settle back from the barrier but is capable of closing well and he will be ridden by Beau Mertens, who strikes at 26% for the stable, providing a 54% profit on turnover for punters.

Race 7 No.5 PRINCE OF MERCIA – ($5.50)

PRINCE OF MERCIA should find this easier than recent runs. The five-year-old has had two runs this time in and worked home well over the 955m at Moonee Valley when resuming before heading to Sandown and placing 9th behind Lord Paramount. He was never really in it and was more than three lengths from the winner but they ran quick time that day, while the 3rd place getter has since come out and scored well in a BM64 at Yarra Valley. Another firmer in the betting, the son of Magnus was solid at this stage of his last prep, while a track with some give in it is a boost to his chances.
