Lismore galloper PALAWA KANI has improved with each start this time in and looks well placed here for back-to-back victories today. Last start, the Your Song mare was third-up and she had trouble running a straight line but did well enough to claim victory in a BM58 Hcp, here over 1010m. Although tending to duck in, she still ran her last 600m, 1.1 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best last-start effort here by more than 4 lengths. She also posted the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals for that race. Fourth-up here, she should be at her peak now and already a two-time winner at the track and distance, she will take beating in this contest.

Race 8: No.6 PRIDE OF PYINGERRA ($6.50 with Palmerbet)
Coming off consecutive top-two finishes, the Murwillumbah-based PRIDE OF PYINGERRA has found his best form at the right time and looks ideally placed here to take home the Cup today. Last start, the Reward For Effort gelding came off an unlucky second at the Gold Coast when he went one better at Grafton, taking out a 1200m Open Hcp with Jon Grisedale in the saddle that day. He ran his last 600m, 3.9 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this field. Today, he gets the gun-run from gate one and Grisedale sticks with him as well. With a trouble-free run here, he should prove hard to hold out.
