The Bjorn Baker-trained XCITED made an impressive debut at Canberra and looks poised to go on with it here. The Savabeel gelding made his racing debut two weeks ago and impressed by taking out the 1400m Maiden event. In a moderate speed, he settled on the leader’s heels to the turn, then turned it into a two-horse war as they fought it out all the way to the line, where he gained the upper hand over the final stages. The extra distance should suit today as Winona Costin takes the reins. With another trouble-free run here, he looks a genuine winning chance again.

Race 3: No.2 WHATABOUTSCOTTY ($7.50 with Ladbrokes)
Wellington galloper WHATABOUTSCOTTY sees the Bathurst track for the first time today but brings hot form with him. Last start, the Salade gelding was second-up off a six-month absence when he broke through for his maiden win over 1400m at Bathurst. Dylan Stanley rode a patient race that day as he sat behind the leader most of the way and waited for the gap to arrive. It finally came, passing the 100m mark, and Stanley drove the four-year-old through it to claim victory on the line. Stanley sticks with him today and from gate four, he maps to be box-seating on settling. If he finds clean air in the run home here, it could be back-to-back wins fore him today.

Race 7: No.7 BOOROWA GIRL ($9 with Neds)
Local galloper BOOROWA GIRL is third-up today and with a little extra ground to play with here, she looks right in the mix at good odds. Last start, the Xtravagant mare reared at barrier rise and was tailed-off, spotting the front-runners a dozen lengths on settling. She fanned wide on the turn and caught the eye with a big finish, taking home fourth prize in the 11-strong field. She posted the fastest final 600m and 200m sectionals for the race that day. Jake Barrett has been aboard for her first two runs this preparation and sticks with her here. If she can get off to a better start today, she can this contest a real shake at (currently) good each-way odds.
