Race 7:  No.2  CHEAP SHOT  ($2.45 with Neds)

Local galloper CHEAP SHOT is unbeaten in two starts and down in grade here will take a ton of beating. Last start, the Shooting To Win gelding came off he Maiden win and stepped-up to Class 2 company where he proved too strong again, taking out the 1100m event on this track. He ran his last 600m, 5.2 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this field by 5 lengths and posted the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals as well. Grant Buckley steered him to that Maiden win and returns here for today’s assignment. The stable have made some gear changes here with a lugging bit and winkers all going on for the first time. He will settle back from a wide gate (11) but watch for a big finish.

Race 5:  No.6  DE FORERUNNER  ($2.60 with Palmerbet)

The Locally-trained DE FORERUNNER resumes today from a 12-month absence but his resume suggests he will right in this contest. Last start, the Dream Ahead gelding ended his last campaign with a win in Class 2 company in a 1280m event at Orange, in December last year. Since returning to work, the four-year-old has placed in an 800m trial recently at Hawkesbury. All four starts last preparation ended in top-two finishes, winning two of those. Reece Jones is in charge today and already a winner on fresh legs, he looks set to figure in the finish today.

Race 2:  No.6  LIGHT OF ULURU  ($9 with Ladbrokes)

Hawkesbury galloper LIGHT OF ULURU is third-up today and making her track debut, looks great value in this contest. Last start, the Eurozone mare finished mid-field (beaten just over two lengths) in a BM58 Hcp at Muswellbrook. She stepped-up from 1460m to the 1750m that day where she was still lacking a little in race fitness. Today, Winona Costin sticks with her as she draws the fence and maps to settle better than mid-field with cover. Fitter for those two runs back, she is already a winner when third-up and coming in on the limit here, she looks a prime contender for the chocolates today at generous odds.
