BEST BET 🏆
Race 5: No.2 PIE PARTY ($2.20 with Palmerbet)
The Kris Lees-trained PIE PARTY is second-up today and looks well placed here for back-to-back wins. Last start, the Pierro mare resumed after 11 months off the scene and wasted no time by taking out a 1200m Maiden Plate at Doomben. He covered the trip, 1 length quicker than benchmark, setting a new personal best and clocking the best in this field by more than 6 lengths. Andrew Mallyon remains aboard for today’s contest and with a trouble-free run today, he can repeat his last start effort here and go back-to-back.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 7: No.3 COLLAY’S SPIRIT ($4.60 with Ladbrokes)
Gold Coast galloper COLLAY’S SPIRIT is third-up today and makes his Beaudesert debut. Last start, the Charm Spirit gelding finished just out of the money when he took home fourth prize in a BM68 Hcp over 1400m at Gatton. Coming from well back, he finished strongly but not fast enough, still, beaten less than a length on the line. He ran his last 600m, 4 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this line-up by 4 lengths. It’s a short back-up here (five days) but fitter for two runs back today, he looks in the mix.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 3: No.9 KING OF WANCHAI ($6.50 with TAB)
The Liam Birchley-trained KING OF WANCHAI is third-up here and looks to have found his racing mojo. Last start, the Dissident gelding was second-up after a lengthy eight-month absence when he improved from his first-up effort to take out an 1100m Maiden at Gatton. He ran his last 600m, 3.2 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best last-start effort here by more than 6 lengths. He also recorded the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals for the race as he crossed the line two lengths ahead of the 12-strong field. Steph Thornton has the ride today where looks a genuine chance of back-to-back victories at odds.
