Bendigo Tips 1/3/2023

BEST BET 🏆 (WIN)

Race 5 No. 4  LIFE LESSONS – ($3.80)

LIFE LESSONS can be a big improver in Race 5. The Peter Moody-trained mare resumed at Flemington on March 11 over the 1400m. She raced a tad keenly and was posted wide without cover before the tough run told, finishing 7th behind Scallopini. She will improve off that and hard to fault her form at her last preparation, winning three in a row before finishing runner-up behind Nugget in the Lord Stakes (1700m). The daughter of Tavistock improved five lengths on benchmark figures when second up last time. With a better time of it than her last run, she should be hard to beat.

NEXT BEST 🥈 (WIN)

Race 4 No.4 CABOCHE- ($5.50)

Race 4 sees the stayers stretch out over the Bendigo Cup distance of the 2400m and CABOCHE can be an improver up in trip. The Chris Waller-trained galloper has had three runs this time in and wasn’t far away when 8th over the 2000m at Randwick in a BenchMark 88 two starts ago before running 7th oveR the 1900m at Rosehill on March 11. He was run off his feet a little bit but stuck on to go 6.8 lengths faster than standard benchmark, which IS the best last start benchmark figure of any runner. Fourth up last time the son of Vadamos was 3rd over the 2400m at Caulfield on Caulfield Guineas. Step up in trip looks perfect and he draws barrier 3 with Daniel Stackhouse to ride.

BEST VALUE 💰(EACH-WAY)

Race 6 No. 2 NORTHERN BARRAGE – ($6.50)

Absolutely loved the win by Queen Air at Moonee Valley on All-Star Mile day but the 8kg rise in weight concerns me. Money might come for NORTHERN BARRAGE, who has been rock solid in his four career runs. The Michael Kent-trained galloper has been strong at the end of his races and settled last in the Group 2 Autumn Classic (1800m) at Sandown on February 25. He was shuffled out very wide as they rounded but produced the fastest last 400m-200m split and the second fastest last 200m to run 6th behind Pericles. That form looks good for this and the stable had entered him in the Rosehill Guineas (2000m) before scratching him. Kind barrier suits and he is right in this.
