Race 2 No. 6 MAGNASPIN- ($2.40)

MAGNASPIN can open up his preparation with a win. The Leon & Troy Corstens-trained galloper has had four career starts for three minor placings with all of those coming in town. He was excellent first up at his last preparation when runner-up on debut behind Doull over the 1100m and was unlucky later on over the 1420m at Flemington when runner-up to Grinzinger Bishop before landing 3rd behind Quang Tri in the Listed Taj Rossi Final (1600m). He went more than three lengths faster than standard those runs and anything near that should see him be hard to beat here.

Race 8 No. 13 STANDOFF- ($6.50)

STANDOFF can chalk up an overdue win in Race 8. The five-year-old takes a while to get going in her preparation and was last seen in the all-greys race at Flemington on Melbourne Cup day, running 5th behind Love Tap over the 1400m. She settled back that day and was held up from the 500m to the 200m before producing the fastest last 200m. She was luckless prior to that at Sale as well. The backmarker just needs a change in luck. Pace looks even enough here and worth noting that she went a healthy 8.6 lenghts faster than standard benchmark at her recent run. They are the best last start figures of any runner. Expect her to be strong late in the piece and go very close.
