Race 6:  No.4  WHEY MISCHIEF  ($2.80 with bet365)

Local trainer Steve Massingham saddles-up WHEY MISCHIEF here who is having his second start for the stable and looks the best of the day. Formerly with the Joe Waldron stables at Pakenham, the American-bred galloper seemed all at home last start when making his stable debut. He lined-up in a 1000m Maiden at Townsville and with Nathan Day aboard, finished too good for his rivals that day, crossing the line half a length ahead of the 10-strong field. He ran his last 600m, 2.5 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this line-up by more than 4 lengths. Today he sees his new home track for the first time and has Nathan Day remaining in saddle. Ideally drawn in gate three, he maps to settle just behind the speed (with cover) and going on his Townsville effort, he should prove very hard to hold out today.

Race 3:  No.3  INVESTOR  ($3.30 with Ladbrokes)

The locally-trained INVESTOR has made the podium in his past five starts and looks well placed here to add another one to his collection. Last start, the Written Tycoon gelding stepped-up to Class 6 company and did well to grab third prize, here over the 1400m trip. He ran his last 600m, 4.8 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best here while posting the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals for the race as well. Melea Castle sticks with him today after steering him to two of his four career victories already. He is a real track specialist (boasting six top-three finishes from his seven starts here to date) and in the small field today, he will take beating.

Race 5:  No.1  ALI’S JAB  ($3.30 with Neds)

The Mark Dale-trained ALI’S JAB comes off an eight-week let-up today and boasting a strong fresh record, looks right in the mix here. Last start, the Jabali gelding went too quick early and was run down in Open company, here over the 950m sprint. Spelled immediately, he resumes today with several gear changes, where the blinkers come off again. Isabella Teh has her first ride on the galloper and after her 2kg claim, the five-year-old comes in well at weights as he drops sharply in grade today. Three wins, and all-up nine podium finishes from his ten starts here are impressive starts and already placed three times when fresh, he looks a serious player here.
