BEST BET 🏆

Race 7:  No.1  LICONA  ($2.90 with Palmerbet)

Local trainer Scott Cooper saddles-up LICONA here who looks set to make it four-straight today. Last start, the Medaglia D’oro mare brought up the hat-trick when she proved too good for them in a BM55 over 1400m at Townsville. She ran her last 600m, 1.9 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this line-up. That win made it two from two for jockey Nathan Day who sticks with the mare again today. Ideally drawn here in gate three, she maps to take a sit right behind the pace and enjoy the trail to the turn. Day knows where the line is here and with a trouble-free run, he can get the mare over the line ahead the rest today.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 2:  No.2  BOLD TYPE  ($4.20 with bet365)

Locally-trained by Steve Massingham, BOLD TYPE is in great touch of late and looks a solid chance of bringing up the hat-trick today. Last start, the Written Tycoon gelding made it back-to-back wins when he proved to good for them in a 1000m Open Hcp at Townsville. He covered the trip, 3.9 lengths slower than benchmark, still the best last-start effort here. Masayuki Abe is two from two with the seven-year-old and remains on board today. He drops back to the 875m trip today, but being a front-running type, that won’t disadvantage him at all. Drawn gate two here, he maps to settle on-speed and already a three-time winner on his home track, he looks the testing material in this contest.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 5:  No.3  BIG FLASH  ($6.50 with bet365)

Local galloper, BIG FLASH knows his way around Cannon Park and third-up today will take beating in this contest. The Zebedee gelding kicked off this campaign with a win on fresh legs in a BM60 Hcp over 900m then last start, beat all but home, here in a harder Class 4 event over the 950m sprint. He ran that out, 5 lengths slower than benchmark, still the best in this field. Well drawn in gate three here, regular rider Stephen Wilson remains in the saddle seeking his third win on the gelding. Down in weight today, he will strip even fitter after two runs back and is capable of giving this a real shake at odds today.
