Race 4:  No.4  REET PETITE

Local trainer, Keith Dryden saddles-up REET PETITE here who is a track specialist and looks primed for another top-shelf performance in this contest. Last start, the Rubick mare made it top-two finish number six from her seven career starts to date when she easily accounted for them in a Class 1 Hcp, here over the mile trip. Tyler Schiller had his first ride on the mare that day and is back looking for his second success with the four-year-old. She loves racing here with both career wins coming on her home track. Ideally drawn in gate two today, she maps to settle just behind the speed and with a trouble-free run here, she should prove hard to hold out.

Race 6:  No.1  THUNDERLIPS

The Bjorn Baker-trained THUNDERLIPS is in top-shelf form of late and looks set to make his Canberra debut a winning one today. The Zoustar gelding has had a solid preparation for the big $150K event, winning his past two starts against city class company. Last start, he led from barrier to box in a BM78 Hcp over 1400m at Randwick with Dylan Gibbons in the saddle. He is fourth-up today and up against his own age group here where he draws out in gate nine but has the early gate speed to cross and settle near the lead. At his peak after three runs back, the hat-trick is not out of the question.

Race 8:  No.8  REDSTONE WELL 

Dampened somewhat with early scratchings, the year’s Cup is still an open affair as we run with the Annabel Neasham-trained REDSTONE WELL who is in good touch this time in and after four starts back, will be at his peak today. Last start, the English-bred gelding came off a solid win in BM88 company at Randwick over the 1600m trip when he faced his first test at the 2000m journey on the same track. That day, he had 2.5kgs more to carry and it took its toll, seeing him finish mid-field, still beaten just two lengths over the line. Tom Sherry is the new pilot today as the five-year-old makes his first appearance on the Canberra track. He has enjoyed a solid preparation for this contest and dropping 5.5kgs here, he should be there at the finish.
