Race 7:  No.14  SWEET HONESTY  ($2.45 with Neds)

Down in the weights here, the Keith Dryden-trained SWEET HONESTY is in great touch this time in and with boxes ticked everywhere, she looks the testing material in this contest. Last start, the Nicconi mare lined-up here on a Heavy 10 and with Brendan Ward in the saddle, destroyed her opposition in a BM65 over the mile. She ran her last 600m, 10 lengths quicker than benchmark and posted the fastest final 800m, 600m and 400m sectionals for the race as she put 3.5 lengths on them over the line. Ward is now two from two with the four-year-old who is now a track and distance winner as well. Ideally drawn in gate three today, the pull in the weights should see her very hard to beat here.

Race 6:  No.4  I’M NOT LEAVING  ($5 with bet365)

Local galloper I’M NOT LEAVING is fitter for three runs this time in and back on his home track today, looks a genuine contender for the major prize. Last start, the Trust In A Gust gelding was third-up and fit enough to finally break through for his Maiden win over 1200m at the Sapphire Coast. Carrying 59kgs and with Quayde Krogh aboard, he came from mid-field on the turn and proved too strong in the run home. At his peak today, the step up to 1400m looks ideal here as Krogh sticks with him. His early gate speed has him settling just off the pace and with trouble-free run here, he should prove hard to hold out again.

Race 5:  No.6  FANTINI  ($5 with bet365)

Locally-trained by Todd Smart, FANTINI is second-up today and ticks enough boxes to make things interesting in this contest. Last start, the Supreme Class mare was fresh off a six-month break when she finished fifth (beaten less than two lengths) in a BM58 Hcp over 1000m at Goulburn. Conditions were very unfavourable that day where the Heavy 10 surface certainly wasn’t didn’t help her chances on fresh legs. Billy Owen is back for this assignment after steering her to victory two starts back at the Sapphire Coast. Already a track and distance winner and a winner when second-up, she looks a genuine winning chance in this field.
