Race 6:  No.6  AKAUWHEO  ($3.20 with bet365)

Another from the Kris Lees stable is AKAUWHEO who has already made an impact from her two career starts and looks well placed here to go on with it today. Last start, the Irish-bred filly came off a podium finish on debut when she led from barrier to box to take out a 1400m Maiden on a heavy track at Scone. She put 1.5 lengths on them that day, running the fastest final 600m, 400m and 200m sectionals for the race. Ash Morgan is in charge today and jumping from gate four, the filly maps to settle in front again. Dropping back to 1300m shouldn’t be an issue here and with the experience of Morgan in the saddle, she looks the testing material in this contest.

Race 5:  No.10  MISS STATEMENT  ($3.20 with Palmerbet)

The Kris Lees-trained MISS STATEMENT has improved with every start this time in and here she looks a genuine chance of breaking through for her first win. Last start, the Press Statement mare had to deal with a heavy track at Quirindi where she beat all but one home in the 1000m Maiden Plate. Trying to lead all the way, she just found one better on the day, but fought on strongly to hold second spot. Ben Looker sticks with her today and with plenty of early speed here today, he may take a sit behind the battle up front. Ideally drawn in gate two, she maps to settle somewhere in the first half dozen and with a trouble-free run, she will take beating today.

Race 8:  No.5  VILIFIED  ($13 with Unibet)

One for the each-way punters here is the Wauchope-based VILIFIED sees the ‘Coffs’ track for the first time but brings strong claims with him and does look in the mix here. Last start, the Press Statement entire recorded his second win this preparation when he defied the odds to take out the BM58 Hcp over 1000m at Port Macquarie. Carrying 60kgs that day and Peter Graham in the saddle, he drew wide (gate 9 of 11) and was caught three-wide most of the way. Despite covering the extra ground, he had plenty in reserve and finished strongly to grab victory on the line. He ran his last 600m, 2 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this line-up. This is a step-up in grade but with many of these resuming or second-up he has an edge with race fitness after four starts this time in. Graham sticks with him and at juicy each-way odds today, he looks well worth a ticket both ways.
