The Michael Mulholland-trained ATHENA’S LAD is second-up today and ticks all the boxes here that suggest he is the one to beat. Last start, the Albrecht gelding came off a seven-month break when he beat all but one home in Open company over 1600m at Gilgandra with Nick Heyward aboard for the second time. The seven-year-old is a three-time winner when second-up and is a track and distance winner as well. Heywood sticks with him for this assignment and fitter for that first-up run, he will take beating here.

Race 9:  No.6  NANNU  ($4 with Bet Right)

The Dubbo-based NANNU is back in top-shelf form this time in and sporting a major gear change, looks right in this contest. Last start, the Rubick gelding was second-up when he took out a Class 2 Hcp over 1200m at Gilgandra. He steps up to the 1375m today where he is already a winner at the trip. The stable fit the tongue tie for the first time here as he faces Class 3 opposition here. Michael Cahill is the new pilot for this assignment and with a little luck in running, he will be fighting out the finish today.

Race 7:  No.4  DRIVING FORCE  ($5 with bet365)

The Darren Hyde-trained DRIVING FORCE is in top-shelf form this time in and looks a serious player in this contest. Last start, the Artie Schiller gelding went back-to-back when he finished best to win a BM66 Hcp over 1200m at Coonamble. Third-up that day, he ran 1:09.6 for the trip, carrying 60kgs in the process. He drops 2.5kgs here and has Ron Simpson back for the assignment (who rode him to victory two starts back). He is a model of consistency, posting seven-straight podium finishes to date and with a trouble-free run here, he looks well and truly in the mix today.
