Race 5 No. 1 LADY ADELAIDE- ($2.80)
LADY ADELAIDE should be hard to beat in Race 5. The Patrick Payne-trained galloper resumed at Sandown on December 21 over the 1300m and settled handy in the run before sticking on well to finish 3rd behind Boss Queen. She went 3.3 lengths slower than standard benchmark, which is nearly four lengths better than the next best last start figure of any runner. Improvement to come at her second run back and the daughter of Adelaide draws perfectly in barrier 4.

Race 6 No. 2 ANCIENT EGYPT- ($4.60)
ANCIENT EGYPT should find this easier than a last start effort that saw him finish 7th at Moonee Valley on New Years Eve. That came over the 2040m in a BenchMark 70 and he was stepping up from the 1600m. Despite going down, he has improved on benchmark figures with every run and he will strip fitter for this, while the son of American Pharaoh is likely to race on the speed, which is usually the go at Cranbourne.

Race 1 No. 3 COUNTRY’S LIGHT- ($8.50)
Choquant should be hard to beat in the opener on Cranbourne but at the odds it is COUNTRY’S LIGHT that might be worth having something on. The four-year-old resumed at Geelong on Boxing Day over the 1430m and settled back in the field of 12 before working home well for 6th, beaten just over three lengths. At his second run last time he was a significant improver on benchmark figures when going 6.4 lengths faster than standard to finish runner-up at Flemington. Step up to the 1600m is in his favour and he should be strong late in the piece.
