Cranbourne Tips 17/08/2022

BEST BET 🏆

Race 2 No.2  CAPTAIN ROGERS- ($3.70)

A few unknowns with some first starters here but willing to have something on CAPTAIN ROGERS, who was solid on debut with a 3rd at Warracknabeal. The Leon & Troy Corstens-trained galloper settled on the speed that day in a race that developed into a sit-sprint. That came on Soft ground and the son of Flying Artie stuck on well to fill the minors behind Castillan. He will strip fitter for this assignment and is likely to settle handy again from barrier 4.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 8 No. 1 ZIPPING BOY- ($4)

The final event of the day is a BenchMark 78 over the 1000m and ZIPPING BOY can bounce back after battling at Flemington on August 6 over the 1100m. The Jerome Hunter-trained galloper was solo on the inside that day and hard to get a read on that performance. Go on his previous runs that saw him finish runner-up at both Sandown and Caulfield. The five-year-old produced some very solid figures in both of those runs and the second last of those was over the 1000m.

Best Value 💰 (EACH-WAY)

Race 7 No. 1 ATTENTION RUN – ($6)

ATTENTION RUN can go close in Race 7 of the day at Cranbourne. The eight-year-old switched to the Ben Brisbourne stables earlier this year and has been ok in city class. He dropped to a BenchMark 70 at Sandown on July 27, running on well to land the exacta behind Fengarada. That came off a very tough run as he was posted four wide without cover for much of the race. That came off a seven week break and he managed to go 0.4 lengths slower than standard benchmark, which are the second best last start figures of any runner. With the fitness in the tank and a softer run, he should be hard to beat here.
