Race 4:  No.1  MONTANA NIGHT  ($2 with TAB)

The Clinton Taylor-trained MONTANA NIGHT has found the podium seven times from her past eight starts and looks set to bring up her second win on the Dalby track today. Last start, the Spill The Beans mare made it minor-placing number four this preparation when she finished third in a BM65 Hcp over 1560m at Mackay. Beaten less than a length on the line, she ran her last 600m, half a length quicker than benchmark, the best here by more than four lengths. She also ran the fastest final 200m foe the event. Justin Stanley returns for today’s assignment and has tasted success on the mare previously with two wins and five runner-up finishes coming from his eight rides. She has drawn the outside gate here but has the entire home straight to cross and find a sit before they cover the rest of the trip. She is overdue for a change of luck and this contest looks ideal for it to happen today.

Race 6:  No.4  MISS BARTY  ($4 with Neds)

The Lindsay Hatch-trained MISS BARTY is stepping-up in grade today but her current form suggests she is more than capable of making the transition here and is a prime candidate for victory. Last start, the Dawn Approach mare made it back-to-back wins when she took out a BM68 Hcp over 1050m at Doomben. She ran that out, 1.2 lengths slower than benchmark, still the best last-start effort here. Seeing the Dalby track for the first time here, she has drawn the outside gate but has the early gate-speed to cross and maps to settle better than mid-field. After the claim, she carries 2.5kgs less than last start which puts her in the ball park for this contest.

Race 9:  No.13  BLACK WHITTO  ($5.50 with Ladbrokes)

Lindsay Hatch saddles-up BLACK WHITTO here who already boasts winning experience on the Dalby track and yet to miss a podium finish this time in, looks the testing material in this event. Last start, the Whittington gelding broke a hat-trick of minor placings when he took out a BM0-55 Hcp over 1350m at Warwick. In a slowly-run affair, he ran the trip, 5.9 lengths slower than benchmark, still the best last-start effort in this line-up. He also posted the fastest final 800m, 600m and 400m sectionals for the race. After four starts this preparation, he should be in peak condition for this contest and is already a track and distance winner. From gate six, he maps to settle better than mid-field and with the drop on the leaders should prove hard to hold out from there.
