Race 2 No. 3 CHAMPS D’OR – ($3.60)
We finally kicked a goal with CHAMPS D’OR last start, an occasion worthy of celebration within itself. We specked her at double figures earlier this prep, only to watch as Champs D’Or had been unable to letdown for whatever reasons. Started to become convinced that perhaps the harder track of Darwin was more to her liking – just without the class rise. She put that theory to bed when we got back on board and cheered her home as a winner on the sand in Katherine. With that confidence boosting win under her belt, we are going to name Champs D’Or as our Best Bet again.

Race 1 No. 3 BELMONT DAY – ($4.40)
Putting it kindly, the opener on the card in Darwin is a strong race complete with out of sorts handy gallopers. We’ll side with BELMONT DAY, though he seems to be racing with an issue in how he’s been stopping recently. Can forgive the second-up effort over 1100m when racing on-speed to fall in a hole towards the end. Latest back to five furlongs has us looking for a nasal strip or some other sort of lead in. Belmont Day became overhauled by the winner while not going silly-hard in front himself. Perhaps the Clarke stable have changed tact in how they prepare the now 6yo? He is a scopey type with a bit of length about him which may now see him need a few runs in.

Race 5 No. 3 OVERRULED – ($9)
Adam Nicholls may play a stalking role as Johnny-on-the-spot with stable horse OVERRULED. Riding for partner Emma Steel, Nicholls can ride with some quiet confidence off a middle draw on Overruled. Often takes a few runs to find his best, Overruled has been around the mark of late. Only beaten a couple of lengths at latest behind a smart horse in The Mistral over 1300 metres in Darwin. Should expect Nicholls will ask the two favs drawn outside to work in crossing before following in the box-seat. Would love to see we still have three div’s paying on the day as Overruled looks the best Each-Way Value bet on the card in Darwin.
