Devonport Tips 14/08/2022

BEST BET 🏆

Race 4 No. 5 EIGHT MARGARITAS  – ($4.20)

Consistent mare EIGHT MARGARITAS capped a frustrating run of second placings when storming home to miss Alpine Aviator here back in May. Rowan Hammer then sent her around in a winning trial before heading off to Launceston where she didn’t seem comfortable on the soft track. Broke her maiden here the start following over 1650 metres as the class of Codi Jordan saw Eight Margaritas gun down Pop A Honda. Since stepped out over 2150 metres at Launceston where she again maid no headway on the soft surface. Comes back to the track she enjoys racing on and David Pires to put her into the box seat early from an ideal draw.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 6 No. 2 FREELANCER  – ($5)

Daniel Ganderton partnered with FREELANCER to put three-straight wins together at this track recently. They’ve drawn poorly on paper for this; however, Freelancer is a big lump of a horse who likes some room to move. Will be interesting to see what Gando does regarding going forward or back from there, guess we’ll see once the gates open. The pair stormed home from the back to begin their winning sequence and yet they were able to lob a lot handier for their following victories. Freelancer now comes back to his comfort zone on the synthetic following an unsuccessful foray onto the turf in Hobart.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 7 No. 7 ZEVA ROYALE – ($6.50)

We’ll put a line through the latest run of ZEVA ROYALE who was always out the back and never a factor in Launceston. She just never really seemed to travel, and we’ll put the below par performance down to a mare’s day off. Broke her maiden three runs back in Hobart when chasing down Zewinna over this trip. Barry Campbell and Anthony Darmanin were back three weeks later to prove her close win was no fluke. Zeva Royale let down beautifully once clear to storm away with a Class One race over this track and trip. She raced past Alpine Aviator who set a solid tempo after refusing to settle on the speed. The market for this race would have the pair a lot closer if we took their latest runs away.
