Race 7:  No.5  GREAT ASPIRATIONS 

The Tony Gollan-trained GREAT ASPIRATIONS is third-up today and ticks enough boxes here to suggest he can go back-to-back in this contest. Last start, the Savabeel gelding was second-up and a big drifter in the market when he ploughed through the Heavy 10 conditions to easily account for a Class 1 Hcp over 1000m at the Sunshine Coast with Ryan Maloney at the helm. He drops in weight here and has Maloney steering the ship again. He placed third-up last preparation (on this track) and the forecast Soft 6 today should pose no problem for him. With a trouble-free run here, he should prove hard to beat again.

Race 6:  No.8  IT’S JERRY

Barry Lockwood saddles-up IT’S JERRY here who is high-flying since joining the stable and looks set to go on with it today. Last start, the Better Than Ready gelding was having his second start for the Lockwood camp when he cleaned up a Class 5 Hcp over 1100m at Ipswich with Samantha Collett in the saddle. Jumping from the outside gate, he led from barrier to box that day and won by more than a length on the line. Collett returns from a stint in Townsville yesterday (finding the podium in all five races she contested), and here, gets the gun-run from gate one where she will most likely have the four-year-old leading from the outset. Only up 1,5kgs from his last-start win today, he looks the one to beat.

Race 9:  No.11  ZAKIYYA

The Chris Waller-trained ZAKIYYA is third-up here and in winning form, looks set to continue that trend in this contest. Last start, the French-sired mare stripped fitter from her first-up run when she came from mid-field to easily account for a Class 1 field over 1350m at Ipswich. Ryan Maloney was aboard that day and rode the mare a treat as he steered her across the line one length clear in the end. Nicely drawn in gate four today, she maps to settle near mid-field with cover. Already a winner when third-up, she has the runs on the board that suggest she can figure here at odds.
