The Tony Gollan-trained HELL AND BACK is second-up today and after three podium finishes from as many starts, he now looks ready to break through for his first win. Last start, the Hellbent gelding drew the car park (in gate 13 of 14) and with James Orman aboard, used up some fuel to cross and eventually lead on settling. In the run home, he looked in control and was staring a win in the face when he was challenged and grabbed near the line by a $101 chance. Orman sticks with him today and from gate three, he probably leads. Fitter for that first-up run, he gets another chance to shake the monkey and take home the major prize in this contest.

Race 7:  No.9  TIGER FOR LIFE

The Barry Lockwood-trained TIGER FOR LIFE is four starts into this preparation and should now be ready to produce his best today. Last start, the Whittington gelding struggled in the heavy going at the Sunshine Coast when he finished last of the seven runners in a strong Class 3 over 1800m. He had a lot going against him that day and the run is best forgotten. Lockwood makes the decision today to drop him back in distance and slips the tongue tie back on for this assignment. Angela Jones remains the pilot and has options aplenty opened to her as the five-year-old galloper draws ideally in gate two. At his peak today and down in grade, a forward showing would not surprise.

Race 8:  No.6  ISLAND MAGIC

Tony Gollan saddles-up ISLAND MAGIC here who has been ever-consistent after 17 career starts and now four starts into this campaign, she can give this contest a real shake at odds today. Last start, the Hinchinbrook mare came off an impressive Class 3 win at the Sunshine Coast when she tackled a city-class BM70 at Eagle Farm. She failed to fire that day, not responding to Bailey Wheeler as she finished unplaced in the 1000m event. Ryan Maloney returns to steer the ship today and has an impeccable record with the mare, boasting three wins and four minor placings from his seven rides to date. Gollan fits the tongue tie for the first time today and after four minor placings from her five previous starts at Doomben, she looks a solid each-way chance of scoring her first win at the track today.
