BEST BET 🏆
Race 3: No.5 RAVAGED AWARD ($2.60 with Ladbrokes)
The Mark Currie-trained RAVAGED AWARD is one from one with her new stable and today, tries her luck in city class company. Last start, the Shamus Award mare made her stable debut a winning one when she destroyed her rivals in a Class 1 Hcp over 1300m on her new home track at Toowoomba. Formerly with the Corstens Partnership in Victoria, she has clearly settled in nicely to her new surroundings as she put more than six lengths on them in that contest as she posted the fastest final 800m, 600m and 400m sectionals for the race. Ben Thompson has the reins today and the step up to the mile trip today looks ideal. She can go on with it here.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 6: No.1 OTYRAR ($2.70 with bet365)
The Chris Waller-trained OTYRAR carries top weight here but still looks the testing material in this contest. Last start, the New Approach gelding came off a Class 1 victory when he stepped up to a strong BM78 field on this track and wasn’t disgraced when finishing third in the 2200m event. He settled worse than mid-field (on the fence) that day and was held up more than once in the run home. He drew gate two that day and seemed disadvantaged by the inside draw. Today, he draws out (in gate 10) and maps to settle back in the field, with cover but away from the fence. James Orman has the job in the saddle today and with four starts behind him now, he should be rock-hard fit for this and with a trouble-free run, prove hard to hold out here.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 7: No.9 EXTREMIST ($3.80 with Neds)
First-up today, the Robert Heathcote- trained EXTREMIST ticks enough boxes here to be considered a real winning chance in this event. Last start, the Extreme Choice mare ended her last campaign on a high when she easily accounted for a Class 1 Hcp, here over 1200m. She has been in the paddock since but did trial recently where she finished second over 1000m on this track. Already a first-up winner and has saluted at the track and distance, she comes in 3kgs under the limit here (carrying just 51kgs after the claim) and looks a real threat at the weights today.
