The Robert Heathcote-trained BULIKOV is second-up today and well-treated here at the weights and gates, looks a genuine winning chance. Last start, the Deep Field colt resumed from a 17-week break and in need of the run, finished fifth in a BM72 Hcp over 1000m at Eagle Farm. James Orman is in charge today as the colt has just his fourth race start and sees Doomben for the first time. Fitter for that first-up effort, he drops in grade today and a winner when second-up last preparation, he gets the nod in this contest.

Race 6:  No.5  FIFTEEN ROUNDS  ($6.50 with bet365)

Trained at Eagle Farm by Barry Lockwood, FIFTEEN ROUNDS is also second-up today and boasting a strong Doomben record, looks in the mix here. Last start, the I Am Invincible gelding was fresh off a lengthy six-month break when he finished unplaced in a BM75 Hcp over 1200m on his home track. Caught wide most of the way, he also overraced early but still managed to cross the line just over two lengths from the winner. James Orman has tasted success with him previously and is in the saddle again today. He is a winner at the track and has three podium finishes here on his resume. Fitter for that first-up run, he will give this a good shake today.

Race 7:  No.12  HAPPY CANDY  ($7.50 with Palmerbet)

Annabel Neasham saddles-up HAPPY CANDY here who is also second-up today and looks well placed to test this field. Last start, the Smart Missile mare saw the track for the first time in 18 weeks and looked impressive when finishing a close-up second in a BM65 Hcp over 1350m at Ipswich. Today, Kyle Wilson-Taylor is legged aboard for his first ride on the six-year-old who has placed three times when second-up previously. The biggest selling point here is the step up to the mile trip today where she is already a three-time winner. For icing on the cake, she gets the gun-run from gate one and maps to be box-seating on settling. That looks like a recipe for victory here and currently at good each-way odds, she looks well worth a ticket in this contest.
