Doomben Tips 22/03/2023

Our form expert provides Doomben tips for today’s horse racing at Doomben Racecourse and gives his best bets.

BEST BET 🏆

Race 3:  No.2  MOVEITMOVEIT  ($3.90 with Neds)

Stuart Kendrick saddles-up MOVEITMOVEIT here who looks well placed to bring up the hat-trick today. Last start, we sent the Maurice gelding to the gates as our Best Bet 🏆 of the day and he didn’t disappoint when he took out a Class 2 Hcp over 1400m at the Sunshine Coast. He flew over his last 600m, running that out, 10.2 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this line-up by more than 3 lengths. He steps up in grade and distance today as he tackles the mile trip for the first time but he has last Saturday’s glamour boy Ben Thompson on board, (fresh from his five-winner haul on this track), and he boasts an impressive record with the four-year-old, having ridden him to all three career victories. Kendrick has scratched the galloper from Race 4 to send him around in this event and with a trouble-free run here, he should prove very hard to hold out today.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 1:  No.1  CRANKY HARRY  ($3.10 with Ladbrokes)

Deagon-based galloper CRANKY HARRY has finished top-two in all three starts to date and looks set to continue the trend in this contest. Last start, the Spill the Beans gelding came off his maiden win at Eagle Farm when he was nosed out of a possible back-to-back win in a Three-Year-Old Hcp over 1400m at the Farm. He ran his last 600m, 2.6 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best last-start effort here. Having his fourth start today, he should be rock-hard fit for this and drawn ideally in gate three today, he will take beating.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 2:  No.4  ISLAND MAGIC  ($3.50 with BlueBet)

The Tony Gollan-trained ISLAND MAGIC has been ever-consistent (boasting 10 podium finishes from her 12 career starts) and after the claim here, looks well weighted to bring up win number four today. Last start, the Hinchinbrook mare was fresh off a 17-week spell when she got up in the final strides to take out a BM65 Hcp over 1000m at the Sunshine Coast. She flew over her final 600m, running it out, 6.7 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this field. She also posted the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals for that race. Well drawn in gate six today, she carries a little less weight here (after the claim for Cejay Graham) and from a favourable draw (gate six), she will be there when the whips are cracking.
