BEST BET 🏆
Race 5: No.1 WEONA SMARTONE ($1.85 with Palmerbet)
The David Vandyke-trained WEONA SMARTONE has resumed with a vengeance and looks all set to go on with it here. Last start, the talented Shamexpress gelding gave backers a fright when he hung on by the barest of margins in Open company over 1110m at Doomben. He ran that out, 3.9 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this field by more than 3 lengths. In his defence, he was resuming from a lengthy eight-month spell and his condition was just giving way approaching the line. He carries more weight here but has already won three of his four previous second-up appearances and has Ryan Maloney returning for the ride who has steered the six-year-old to six of his nine career victories to date. Already two-time winner over the 1000m trip, he looks the best of the day.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 7: No.9 FETCH ($5 with Palmerbet)
The locally-trained FETCH ticks enough boxes here to be considered a genuine winning chance in this contest. Last start, the Sebring mare came off an impressive win, here in Class 4 company when she then beat all but one home in a BM78 Hcp over 1110m at Doomben. She had a Heavy 8 to deal with that day which is not her preferred surface. She still covered the trip, half a length quicker than benchmark, the best in this line-up. Rock-hard fit after four starts this time in, she is a track and distance winner and will take beating here.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 3: No.3 NARNIA ($8 with Unibet)
Annabel Neasham saddles-up a couple here with NARNIA looking the better of the two and at good odds as well. Last start, the well-bred Not A Single Doubt colt was second-up off a lengthy eight-month absence when he proved too good for them in a 1350m Hcp at Doomben. He ran the trip out, 6.4 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best here and a new personal best for him. He also posted the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals for the race. Compared to his stablemate (Plundering), he is drawn better, carries less weight and has just run the trip and saluted. (Currently), far better value to be had here.
