Race 1 No. 8 RAINBOW CONNECTION ($2.85)

We do every now and then see a discrepancy in Queensland between a horse’s allotted weight and their benchmark rating. This is likely due to clauses at time of nomination in Class races as opposed to Benchmark racing. This immediate form tool draws attention to RAINBOW CONNECTION of the Matt Dunn yard in the opener. He won first-up over this track and trip last prep when finding himself out the back early under Brodie Loy. Loy was stuck riding Rainbow Connection on one rein as the horse threaded the gaps into the straight. This was a convincing win in a race that rates much higher than this does on Saturday. Dunn has Rainbow Connection ready to win on resumption off the back of two quiet trials either side of the border.

Race 4 No. 8 JEMELDI ($5.10)

Recent Gatton winner JEMELDI continues to improve with racing as witnessed at Doomben last start. Jemeldi wasn’t the cleanest out of the machines with Kyle Wilson-Taylor picking runs as the field started turning for home. Wilson-Taylor had Jemeldi out in clear running by the top of the straight and ready to produce. The bird had flown with Vodka Martini shooting for home, completing the race in one of the fastest relative times to the day. This allowed Jemeldi to record a career peak rating as the 4yo flashed home with the fastest last 600m and 400m sectionals of the day. Jemeldi was the only horse to break 33 seconds last 600m while also breaking 22 seconds for the last 400m. He was still strong through the line recording an 11.40 last furlong which was also one of the quickest on the day.

Race 5 No. 5 FIELD WIRI ($7)

We’ll head to the sectionals from Doomben a fortnight ago again as FIELD WIRI steps out onto Eagle Farm Racecourse on Saturday. Kyle Wilson-Taylor sticks with the horse after not having much luck from the barrier draw last start. He asked Field Wiri to come back towards the tail early from their wide gate before hunting as the widest on straightening. Field Wiri got home with the second-fastest last 600m while being only one of two horses to break 22 seconds last 400m. She got home with an 11.30 sec last furlong over the 1100m, giving every indication that 1200m right now is within her favour.
