Race 4:  No.6  ZINOTAR

The David Vandyke-trained ZINOTAR has his third race start today and after a debut mishap, has bounced back and looks a serious competitor in this contest. On debut, the Tarzino gelding travelled just 50 metres before dislodging Ryan Maloney, finishing the race riderless. Then last start, he began awkwardly and settled back in the field, leaving the job of winning more difficult but still finished well enough to grab third prize on the line with Maloney in the saddle again. He draws mush better today in gate three and should appreciate the extra distance as well. Maloney sticks with him for this assignment and with all things going well, he will be fit enough to go on with it today and looks the testing material.

Race 5:  No.6  MA’S EPIC

Toby Edmonds saddles-up MA’S EPIC here who is second-up today and in search of back-to-back victories in this contest. Last start, the Magnus mare came off a six-month break after leaving the Chris Anderson stable and on fresh legs, gave the new camp plenty to cheer about by taking out a Class 1 F&M Hcp over 1100m at Ipswich with Jasper Franklin aboard. This is a little tougher as she faces city class company for the first time but Franklin is sticking with her today and he brings a 3kg claim, seeing her carry just half a kilo over the limit here. She draws wide but after early scratchings, the field is (currently) down to just eight runners, leaving the barrier draw a minor issue. She is a mare in form and should play a role in the finish.

Race 7:  No.4  MAXIMUM VORTEX  

The Ballina-based MAXIMUM VORTEX resumes off a 19-week break today and boasting a solid fresh record, can figure here at odds. Last start, the Kuroshio gelding ended his first campaign finishing just behind the money in Open company at Lismore. Trying to lead all the way, he set a cracking pace (along with Clifton Springs) which saw both them weaken out of a podium finish, paying the price for going hard so early. He was then spelled and has since returned to work in fine style, winning a Grafton trial by more than four lengths just ten days ago. Brisbane’s in-form apprentice, Cejay Graham rode the galloper to his first two wins (which were back-to-back) and she has the reins again today. He won first-up (on debut) last preparation and with a trouble-free run here, he looks a solid each-way chance in this contest.
