BEST BET 🏆
Race 8: No.6 OPTIMO ($4.60 with bet365)
The Port Macquarie-based OPTIMO makes his second visit to the Farm and now looks set to post his first win for this preparation. Last start, the Exosphere gelding tried his luck again at Randwick where he took on a Class 2 Hwy Hcp over 1100m. Hampered badly at the start, he settled back in the field and did well to finish fourth that day, beaten just two lengths on the line, taking ground of them in the closing stages. He ran the last 600m, 7.3 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this line-up by 4 lengths. Robbie Fradd has the job in the saddle today and with a trouble-free run here, looks a solid chance of taking this one out.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 4: No.7 PORT MOURANT ($9 with Unibet)
Sunshine Coast galloper PORT MOURANT makes his Eagle Farm debut today and his recent form suggests he is right in this contest. Last start, the Fiorente gelding made it four-straight top-two finishes when he beat all but one home in a Class 1 Hcp over 2060m at Doomben. He left the gates the widest runner and was beaten a head on the line. He covered the last 600m, 5.2 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best here by 3 lengths. He also posted the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals for the race. Mark Du Plessis returns for today’s assignment and he boasts plenty of success with the five-year-old. Up in class today, he draws to do no early work from gate two and currently in career-best form, he looks right in the mix today at good odds.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 5: No.8 RELIABLE RUBY ($10 with bet365)
Chris Munce saddles-up RELIABLE RUBY here who is racing consistently this time in and looks well placed in the conditions today. Last start, the Reliable Man mare came off consecutive runner-up finishes when she failed to handle the heavy conditions at Doomben, finishing mid-field in the NMW Hcp over 1200m. She drew the car park that day (gate 14 of 14) and was trapped wide the entire trip. Drawn better today, she will also appreciate the dry track as Larry Cassidy sticks with her for the contest, (having missed a podium finish with her just once in five rides). Coming off a six-week let-up, she boasts a very strong fresh record and already a two-time winner over the trip, she looks a solid each-way chance here.
