BEST BET 🏆

Race 7:  No.8  LEGAL ESPRIT  ($5 with Palmerbet)

The Don Baker-trained LEGAL ESPRIT is second-up here and ticks all the boxes to suggest he will be hard to beat in this contest. Last start, the Bel Esprit gelding resumed from a lengthy six-month spell when he finished a gallant third behind smart galloper Rubiquitous in an Open Hcp, here over the 1000m sprint. He ran the last 600m, 12.6 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this line-up by 6 lengths. He also recorded the fastest final 600m and 200m sectionals for the race. We marked him as a QLD Blackbooker (11 March) and already a two-time winner when second-up and a dual winner at the track, he looks the best of the day from here.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 4:  No.7  COMPASS ROSE  ($6 with Ladbrokes)

Tony Gollan saddles-up COMPASS ROSE here who has found her mojo and looks every chance of back-to-back victories here. Last start, the So You Think filly was having her third race start when she broke through for her Maiden win, here over the mile. She ran that out, 2.7 lengths slower than benchmark, a new personal best and equal-best in this field. She also posted the fastest final 800m, 400m and 200m sectionals for that race. She is up against her own age group here with Angela Jones remaining aboard. Ideally drawn in gate three, she maps to settle just off the speed and fitter for those three runs, she looks a genuine winning chance here at odds.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 3:  No.6  ROSE OF DUPORTH  ($19 with bet365)

The Stuart Kendrick-trained ROSE OF DUPORTH has been in career-best form of late and dropping in grade here, looks a big chance of another top-three finish. Last start, the Duporth mare stepped-up to a smart Class 6 field at Doomben where they were a little too sharp for her over the mile, as she finished midfield in the wash-up. She still ran the trip out, 5.5 lengths quicker than benchmark, setting a new personal best that day. She had won three of her past four starts prior to that. Down in grade here, Brodie Loy is reunited with her for his second ride on the mare and with a trouble-free run here, she looks well worth an each-way ticket in this contest.
