Race 5:  No.7  RING OF STEEL  ($2.25 with Unibet)

Kelly Schweida saddles-up RING OF STEEL here who is third-up and ready to play. Last start, the I Am Invincible gelding showed a ton of improvement when second-up, beating all but one home in a Class 3 Hcp over 1100m at Ipswich. Trying to lead all the way, he gave plenty in the run home but just couldn’t hold off the challenge over the last 50 metres. He is already a winner when third-up and gets the gun-run here from gate one. From the good gate, he maps to lead them on settling and fitter for two runs back now, he should prove hard to run down.

Race 2:  No.1  BORN FEARLESS  ($3 with Unibet)

On paper (at least), this appears to be a race in two as we run with the Rex Lipp-trained BORN FEARLESS who is having his third race start today and looks set for a third-time-lucky victory. Last start, the Defcon gelding showed plenty of improvement at his second start when he beat all but one home in a Three-Year-Old Maiden, here over the 1400m trip. He settled near last and could still see all of them on straightening, but in the run home, finished strongly to pass all but the winner in the end. He drops a little in weight today and has a new pilot as Ben Thompson is legged aboard for this assignment. He does no early work as he draws the fence and should enjoy a cushy run from there. His main rival (Central Park) is drawn out here and is yet to see the track. All things going well, the three-year-old looks to have the edge in this event.

Race 6:  No.3  READY AZZ EVA  ($7 with Ladbrokes)

The Robert Heathcote-trained READY AZZ EVA has impressed enough this preparation to suggest he is more than capable of adding another victory to his resume in this contest. Last start, the Better Than Ready gelding settled mid-field with cover and ridden a treat by Michael Rodd, found clean air in the run home and finished best to win a BM65, here over 1400m by a length on the line. This looks a little easier as he carries 2kgs more for this assignment. Rodd sticks with him as he gets the gun-run from gate one where he maps top settle near mid-field on the fence. If Rodd can find the gaps in the run home, he is a better than even chance of going back-to-back today.
