BEST BET 🏆

Race 1:  No.1  XANTHUS  ($2.30 with bet365)

Rockhampton trainer Jared Wehlow takes a trio of his runners to Emerald today and here he saddles-up XANTHUS who returns to country class racing and will take beating here. Last start, the Better Than Ready gelding took on a strong field at the Gold Coast in the MM Country Cup Quality Hcp over 1200m and just couldn’t match it with them, beaten 15 lengths over the line. The wet track didn’t help matters either that day as the further they went, the further he dropped back in the run. Turning for home, he was never a chance at a podium finish, as he dropped out of it in the blinding rain. Conditions today will suit with a Soft 5 to race on and a strong chance of an upgrade as the temperature hits 35 degrees today. Ash Butler is back aboard and from gate one, he gets all the favours. We will see a different horse today.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 6:  No.5  SHE’S WINNING  ($3.20 with Neds)

The Clinton Taylor-trained SHE’S WINNING has been doing precisely that of late and looks set to do it again here today. Last start, the Winning Rupert filly brought-up the hat-trick when she arrived just in time for victory in a BM45 over 1072m on a Firm 2 at Caliope. She carried 61.5kgs that day with Brooke Johnson in the saddle but was still able to claim the winner’s purse that day. Her resume now reads, ten starts for four wins and as many minor placings And Brooke Johnson is three from three with the three-year-old. Up in grade today, she drops 3kgs in weight and gets the gun-run from gate one. She was a winner here two starts back and has Johnson sticking with her today. There’s plenty to like about her chances here and we have her on top today.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 5:  No.3  ZARNADO  ($5 with Ladbrokes)

The Kevin Miller-trained ZARNADO is second-up today and brings a glowing resume with him today. Last start, the Zariz gelding was fresh off a 13-week spell when he beat all but one home in a Class 3 Hcp over 1050m at Rockhampton. He makes his track debut here but has an impeccable record over the 1000m trip, boasting a win and five minor placings from seven starts over the trip. Already a winner when second-up, he has also found the podium on 10 occasions from his 13 career starts and has Tahlia Fenlon back in the saddle who has ridden the six-year-old to all four career wins to date. Fitter for one run back, he looks a genuine threat here.
