Flemington Tips 20/1/2023
BEST BET 🏆
Race 2 No. 11 SMILE AND WAVE – ($2.80)
SMILE AND WAVE might be worth sticking with after a first up effort that saw him explode to a five length win at Mornington on New Year’s Day. The Anthony & Sam Freedman-trained galloper led them up and gave nothing else a chance to go 1.6 lengths slower than standard. The son of I Am Invincible might need to improve on that to score here but will strip fitter and had a bit left in the tank when winning a few weeks back.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 3 No. 6 ALLEGRETTA – ($6)
ALLEGRETTA shapes as a solid player in Race 3 at Flemington. The Peter Moody-trained galloper should find this easier than recent runs and was a close up 4th at BenchMark 78 level two starts ago before battling into 7th at Moonee Valley on New Year’s Eve over the 1200m. The daughter of Pierro has won three of seven over the 1200m and just needs to handle the Flemington straight to be a big factor.
BEST VALUE 💰(EACH-WAY)
Race 5 No. 2 STUPENDO – ($21)
I don’t mind STUPENDO at the each-way quote in Race 5 of the afternoon at Flemington. The Danny O’Brien-trained galloper resumed at Geelong on January 4 and settled back in a slowly run affair then was held up for a portion of time at the top of the straight before running 9th, beaten just over two lengths. A previous track and distance winner, he was solid in much harder company than this at Flemington in the Poseidon Stakes back in the spring before bumping into Giga Kick in the Danehill Stakes. This class suits and the son of Supido can bounce back into some form here.
