Flemington Tips 25/04/2024

BEST BET 🏆

Race 8 No. 9 FLYING ON A LIMB- ($4.20)

The final race of the day is a BenchMark 78 over the 1100m and FLYING ON A LIMB can be an improver after running 8th at the track and trip behind Midtown Boss on March 30. The Clinton McDonald mare settled last in the field of 18 that day and was building into the race but was held up from the 400m to the 300m and again from the 100m, eventually landing less than three lengths from Midtown Boss in a race where the form has held up. She comes into this third up and achieved a career peak when going more than 10 lengths faster than standard benchmark at her previous run at this stage, claiming a Saturday race at Caulfield.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 1 No. 1 PEACE TREATY- ($4.60)

PEACE TREATY can get the day off to a flyer for us. The Anthony & Sam Freedman-trained galloper has had two runs this time with those coming in harder company than this. She pulled up with some issues when resuming before closing off from well back over the 1200m at Caulfield on April 6 to place 6th behind Inhibitions. The daughter of National Defence drops in grade for this and flew when third up last time, winning by more than three lengths at Moonee Valley. Ryan Houston rides and claims the 3kg. The apprentice hoop has combined with the stable on 12 occasions for four wins, providing a 62% profit on turnover for punters.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 3 No.1 ABERFELDIE BOY- ($5)

ABERFELDIE BOY should be ready to fire at his third run back from a spell. The four-year-old closed off well at Listed level last time in the Easter Cup (2000m) at Caulfield, placing 4th and less than one length from the winner, going a healthy 10.3 lengths faster than standard benchmark. He improved seven lengths on figures the last time he was third up to fill the minor placings in the Group 1 South Australian Derby (2500m) behind Dunkel. The Robbie Griffiths & Matt de Kock-trained galloper has to carry 62kg but does have a sizeable class edge.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 6 No. 8 MAPUTO- ($14)

Best Value comes up in the VRC St Leger for three-year-olds and it is MAPUTO that can go close at the double figure odds. Keen to overlook some of those in this race that were tailed off at Sydney recently in the bigger races for the three-year-olds. The Pat Carey & Harris Walker-trained galloper is on an upward trajectory and loved the step up to the 2000m when claiming his Maiden at Pakenham two starts ago before tackling the 2400m at Caulfield at Listed level and placing 6th behind Gold Wolf. The son of UK sire, Crowded House, produced the fastest last 200m and produced a big spike on benchmark figures from his previous run. He looks like he can stay all day and will love Flemington.
