BEST BET 🏆
Race 3: No.2 DON’T DISS AROUND
Toowoomba galloper, DON’T DISS AROUND is second-up today and ticks all the boxes to suggest he is the one to beat in this contest. Last start, the Dissident gelding resumed off a lengthy 31-week absence when he impressed by taking out a Class 3 Hcp over 1100m on his home track. With Nathan Fazackerley aboard for the first time, he was unwanted by punters, sent out a $16 chance, but yet again, the market was a poor guide as the five-year-old came from last to spoil the party on the $1.70 favourite (Big Sky Country) and grabbed him on the post. Fazackerley sticks with him today where he is already a winner when second-up and a winner at the track and distance as well. He was a dual acceptor here (also nominating for race four), but the stable have elected to run him in this event. There’s no $16 on offer today but at any price, he does look the goods here.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 6: No.2 PASSIONATE REBEL
Port Macquarie trainer, Paul Shailer makes the seven-hour trek to Gatton today with just PASSIONATE REBEL on the float and third-up here, looks a strong chance of collecting enough to pay for the trip. Last start, the Dissident gelding came off a strong win at Kilcoy when he finished just behind the placegetters in a BM60 over 1500m at Warwick. Already a winner when third-up, he is also a two-time winner on soft tracks putting him right in the firing line for a tilt at victory in this contest. Damien Thornton is the new pilot and from gate five, the four-year-old maps to settle just behind the speed. Making his Gatton debut today, a trouble-free run can see him collecting the cash here.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 4: No.7 SUNIKI
Early scratchings have reduced this to a six-horse contest as we run with the Jayden Sims-trained SUNIKI to get the job done today. Last start, the Stratum Star mare recorded her second win in this campaign when she destroyed her rivals in a BM50 over 800m at Esk. With 61kgs on her back that day, she put 3.5 lengths on them over the line. Whilst based in Toowoomba, she all but ‘owns’ the Gatton track, boasting three wins and four minor placings form her ten starts here. Today, she steps-up in grade but drops significantly in weight. After the claim, she will carry just 51.5kgs here which is 4kgs under the limit for this race and a whopping 9.5kgs less than that last start win. A trouble-free run today puts her right in the mix.
