Race 4 No. 14 WITHOUT ENVY – ($2.50)

WITHOUT ENVY should be hard to beat in Race 4 at Geelong. The filly from the Danny O’Brien camp has had just the one run with that coming down the Flemington straight over the 1200m on July 2. On that occasion, she settled midfield and stuck on well to fill the exacta behind Thron Bone, who claimed a further two races before running 5th in the Vain Stakes (1200m). Without Envy went 2.8 lengths faster than standard benchmark in that race, which is nearly nine lengths above the class average here. The daughter of Pariah has been solid in the early betting and will be ridden by Jye McNeil.

Race 5 No. 6 IMA SHELBY – ($7)

IMA SHELBY can go close in Race 5. The Ben & JD Hayes-trained galloper resumed at Geelong on August 12 over the 1430m and closed off well to finish runner-up behind Seonee. At his second run back last time he was a winner over the 1347m at Geelong, while she had some good form in some stronger races later on and was unlucky not to finish closer in the $200,000 VOBIS Gold Reef (1600m) at Flemington when 6th to Umgawa. He went 3.6 lengths slower than standard at his first up run, which are the second best last starts figures of any runner, while he improved seven lengths on figures at this stage of his last preparation. The son of Street Boss won’t be too far away in the run and should be right in the thick of things at the business end.
