Race 1 No. 8 SASSY ANNA- ($5)
A few unknowns with some first starters in action in the opener at Geelong but willing to roll the dice on SASSY ANNA. The Team Hawkes galloper has had the two career starts for two runner-up performances. Her debut was behind Shalaman back in July last year. That horse went on to bigger and better things in the spring. The daughter of Rubick returned at Sandown on December 21 over the 1200m and closed off well behind Mighty Sapphire, going 0.9 lengths slower than standard benchmark, while she went 0.7 lengths faster on debut last year. Both of those figures are better than what any other runner in this race has produced. Form from her recent run has held up with the 3rd placegetter going on to win. Damien Oliver sticks on board.

Race 6 No. 9 STARLEA- ($2.60)
STARLEA gets her chance in Race 6. The Matthew Ellerton-trained galloper has won just one from 17 but has been solid in town at her past few starts. She was runner-up behind the handy Vermentino at Sandown on November 11 before stepping out in a BenchMark 70 at Flemington on December 17 over the 1100m, finishing a one-length 5th behind For Real Life. She looks well placed here and is another one with Oliver on board.

Race 5 No. 1 DIRT ON HARRY- ($4.20)
This looks to be a suitable assignment for DIRT ON HARRY. The six-year-old drops to BenchMark 58 and comes off a last start 6th at Moonee Valley over the 2040m at the Saturday Christmas Eve meeting. He settled back that day and was ok in the circumstances late in the piece to go 0.7 lengths faster than standard benchmark, which is the best last start figure of any runner. The Andrew Bobbin-trained galloper improved on figures throughout his last preparation and has the fitness in the tank to take this one out at what will be his fourth run this time in.
