BEST BET 🏆

Race 6:  No.9  OLENTIA  ($1.85 with Ladbrokes)

Chris Waller saddles-up OLENTIA here who is also unbeaten in two starts and while meeting stiffer opposition in this contest, she still looks a serious contender for the main prize. Last start, the Zoustar filly came off a big Maiden win at Doomben when she clobbered her rivals in a Class 1 Plate over 1200m at Eagle Farm. She ran that out, 4.8 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this field. She also recorded the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals for that event. She looks a very promising type and from gate three here and Jim Byrne in the saddle, the red figures quoted look very justified.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 5:  No.6  BUSTING  ($4.80 with Palmerbet)

The Tony Gollan-trained BUSTING is unbeaten in two starts and looks poised to remain that way. Last start, the Spirit Of Boom gelding franked his Maiden win two starts back when he made light work of a BM65 Hcp over 1200m at the Sunshine Coast. He settled in the box seat and took advantage of that by finishing best to win that contest by almost two lengths on the line, posting the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals in the process. He gets the gun-run from gate one here and looks the testing material in this line-up.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 7:  No.13  WEST OF AFRICA  ($6.50 with Neds)

The Annabel Neasham-trained WEST OF AFRICA welcomes back Chad Schofield today, along with the blinkers and looks well placed here to stake a claim for victory. Posted as a Blackbooker (10 Dec), last start, the 1600m tested out the Not A Single Doubt colt who still finished well enough to claim third prize in the Three-Year-Old Plate at Doomben. Still, he ran his last 600m, 8.4 lengths quicker than benchmark and posted the fastest final 800m to 400m sectionals for the race as well. He jumps from gate six here and maps to be somewhere near mid-field on settling. With a clear run to the line and the blinkers back on, he looks a solid winning chance here at odds.
