Race 7:  No.5  TAREX  ($2.50 with Neds)

Lawrie Mayfield-Smith saddles-up TAREX here who is second-up today and sports winkers for the first time. Last start, the Tarzino gelding came off a 15-week spell when he lined-up in a Class 3 Plate over 1400m at the Sunshine Coast. Settling back in the field, he made up good ground late to grab fourth prize, beaten three lengths on the line. Today he draws nicely in gate two and has the recently arrived Irish jockey Martin Harley in charge (who rode a winner here last Saturday). Placed twice from two previous second-up appearances, the four-year-old looks a genuine contender in this contest.

Race 3:  No.1  ENUNCIATION  ($2.20 with bet365)

The Kelly Schweida-trained ENUNCIATION has improved with every start this time in and now looks ready to win. Last start, the Vadamos gelding made the podium again when finishing third in a Maiden Plate over the mile at Doomben. He ran that out, half a length slower than benchmark, still the best last-start effort here. He gets the gun-run today after drawing the fence and maps to be on speed soon after the jump. His resume shows that he needs a few runs to find his feet and with those four runs behind him now, he should be ready to produce his best and break through today.

Race 4:  No.6  RAPID OUTLAW  ($3.20 with bet365) 

The Les Kelly-trained RAPID OUTLAW returns to the Provincial scene today and looks much better placed in this company. Last start, the Headwater filly took on a BM65 field over 1350m at Doomben where she failed to run on after settling too far back in the run. Drawn the outside gate (13) that day, she was ridden back, giving consideration to the 59.5kgs on her back, but the city class proved just a little to slick on the day. She did cover her last 600m, 2.4 lengths quicker than benchmark, which is the best in this field. Today, she returns to where it all began (where she broke through for her Maiden win) and has Ben Thompson in the saddle for the first time. Fitter for those four career starts to date, she will find this contest a lot easier and looks right in the mix here.
