BEST BET 🏆
Race 2: No.3 THIEVE ($3.20 with Palmerbet)
The Rod Northam-trained THIEVE is third-up today and stepping up in distance here looks just the ticket for him. Last start, the Kempinsky gelding showed plenty of improvement when he finished a close-up third in a Class 1/Maiden over the mile at Tamworth. With Grant Buckley aboard, he ran the trip out, 7.6 lengths slower than benchmark, still the best here by more than 6 lengths. He also posted the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals that day on a Heavy 8 surface. Buckley sticks with him for his Gosford debut and fitter for those two runs back, he should be ready to produce his best today.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 5: No.6 SECOND HALF ($10 with BlueBet)
Another from the Rod Northam stable is SECOND HALF who has hit the ground running in two starts this preparation and looks a genuine winning chance here at odds today. Last start, the Adelaide gelding broke through for his maiden win on a Heavy 8 over 1400m at Tamworth. He travelled three-deep without cover most of the way but still finished best to collect the major prize. He also recorded the fastest final 200m sectional for the race. He maps to settle mid-field with cover and even fitter for two runs back, he looks a real threat here (currently) at double figures.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 6: No.10 LEADING LADY ($10 with Unibet)
Paul Perry saddles-up LEADING LADY here who has managed three podium finishes in her four starts this preparation and looks a little ‘overs’ for this contest today. Last start, the Maurice mare ploughed through a Heavy 10 in city class company when she finished a gallant third in a BM72 Hcp over 1580m at Canterbury. She ran that trip out, half a length quicker than benchmark, the best in this field and set herself a new personal best in the process. Her resume shows a preference to Soft tracks with a win and three minor placings coming from six starts in the going. Returning to country class racing today, Perry has fitted a tongue tie for the first time and puts the lugging bit back on as well. With Ashley Morgan back in the saddle, she lines up here at (currently) good value and at the weights today, is well worth an each-way ticket in this event.
