BEST BET 🏆

Race 4:  No.10  STATE OF AMERICA  ($4 with Unibet)

The David Payne-trained STATE OF AMERICA showed enough on debut to put him right in the mix for this assignment. Last start, he stepped out onto the track for the first time and turned plenty of heads as he came from last on the turn to finish third (beaten a whisker out of second place) in a Canterbury Maiden over 1580m. On a Heavy 9 that day, he ran the last 600m, 4.5 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this line-up by more than 3 lengths. He also recorded the fastest final 800m, 600m and 200m sectionals for the race. Fitter for that run and down in weight today, William Pike sticks with him and on a drier track here, he can give this a real shake.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 5:  No. 4  MISS MYA  ($6 with bet365)

The Ron Quinton-trained MISS MYA hasn’t run a bad race yet and looks well placed here for back-to-back victories today. Last start, the Smart Missile mare broke through for her Maiden win and with Louise Day on board, did it in fine style. She drew gate nine (of 11) that day and despite travelling wide the entire way, still put 3.5 lengths on them over the line. She posted the fastest final 600m, 400m and 200m sectionals that day on a Soft 7 surface. Now four starts into this preparation, she should be at her peak for this and with Day remaining on board, she should take beating here.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 1:  No.2  EL LAGO  ($10 with Palmerbet)

The Paul Murray-trained EL LAGO has been in good touch of late and returning to country class racing today looks a big chance in this event. Last start, the El Roca gelding found the city class competition a little too slick when finishing mid-field in a BM64 Hcp over 2400m at Randwick. He still managed to cover the trip, 2.6 lengths quicker than benchmark, a new personal best for him and the best in this field. Carrying less weight today (after Jackson Searle’s claim), he should find this contest a lot easier. Making his Gosford debut here, he looks a solid each-way chance today.
